On Saturday, March 24, the 2014 movie Chauranga, set in rural India, was screened by members of the Free Saibaba Coalition-U.S. in New York, Boston, and San Francisco. Attendees discussed the depiction of caste and patriarchal oppression in the film. Conversations also touched upon similarities and differences with social contradictions in the United States. Clarifying the particular social and political contradictions within the Indian state through these meetings greatly improved people's understanding of the context behind G.N. Saibaba’s activism and subsequent imprisonment. Similar events will be planned in the near future.
