Dear Mr President,

On behalf of 748,000+ signatories, of which includes the signature of Mr Anthony Albanese Prime Minister of Australia, I wish to congratulate yourself and your fellow Democrats on your victories in the Midterms. On behalf of the petition I also wish to congratulate The Right Hon. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his appointment as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom.

Our systems of democracy are founded on the rights of citizens to make an informed decision based on press freedom. As we all understand members of the press and publishers should never be persecuted, tortured and murdered for publishing factual information that is in the public interest. It is important to acknowledge that this petition includes the signatures from over 200,000 Citizens of the USA, over 100,000 Citizens of Britain and over 250,000 Citizens of Australia that want this case to be dropped and Julian Assange to be freed. “Enough is enough, we don’t see what purpose the continued incarceration of Julian Assange achieves” Anthony Albanese”.

“WASHINGTON (Nov. 28, 2022) — The New York Times and four European news organizations called on the United States government on Monday to drop its charges against Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, for obtaining and publishing classified diplomatic and military secrets.

In a joint open letter, The Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, Der Spiegel and El País said the prosecution of Mr. Assange under the Espionage Act “sets a dangerous precedent” that threatened to undermine the First Amendment and the freedom of the press.

“Obtaining and disclosing sensitive information when necessary in the public interest is a core part of the daily work of journalists,” the letter said. “If that work is criminalized, our public discourse and our democracies are made significantly weaker.” https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/28/us/politics/julian-assange-wikileaks-charges.html .
