The whole construct of having a sitter at Duke is dangerous for many reasons. I fear it makes the nurses more lazy about doing their job. When I asked Joshua's nurse to do something for him, she said, " I'll let the sitter know." That's unacceptable. I don't want an unskilled worker doing the job of a nurse. These so called Sitters are nothing more than hospital prison guards. They are low-level workers, mostly with zero medical background. The only training required is a set of " modules" that they do online through Duke. To have to have these folks next to my son is very uncomfortable, to say the least. My son had a brain tumor. He's not a behavior case nor a criminal. Yes, many of the workers watching him are behavioral health techs. I can only pray for Joshua's safety. Many people are unaware of how much hospitals function as prisons to keep people against their will. This is sadly what is happening to my sweet son. Pray Justice for Joshua.
