As you now know, Dr. Paul Chambers, who was arrested and charged with violating Thailand's draconian lese-majeste law (Article 112) as well as of its Computer Crimes Act is out on bail, but he faces the fight of his life. He not only must fight these politically-motivated charges, but he now has to fight to get his visa restored. Ask yourself this: Why did they charge him now? He's spent most of his professional life writing about civil-military relations. And the article Thai authorities claim was a Article 112 violation wasn't even written by him. It was just a short blurb for an ISEAS talk.
He needs YOUR support. Not just today, but until his life is back on track.
We ask you as academics or advocates for a free and open society to do two easy things:
- Share this petition with your networks on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, LINE, WhatsApp, or whatever social media platforms you use. Ask others to join the fight. Try to make a personal appeal. https://www.change.org/p/free-dr-paul-chambers
- Consider writing a short letter to the editor or an op-ed in your local newspaper or forum. While this is more time consuming, it keeps the pressure on the Thai government and Paul's name in the news. Here's a great one by Dr. Michael Vann as inspiration: https://jacobin.com/2025/04/thailand-monarchy-paul-chambers-dissent
Let's keep up the fight. Bail was just the first step. We need you. Thank you.
