Amnesty International und die Weltgesundheitsorganisation berichteten, dass am 27.12.24 das letzte funktionierende Krankenhaus im Norden des Gazastreifens, das Kamal Adwan Hospital, bombardiert und niedergebrannt wurde und das Gesundheitspersonal verhaftet und gefoltert wurde.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, Kinderarzt und Leiter dieses Krankenhauses, wurde willkürlich und ohne Gerichtsverfahren festgenommen.

Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO hat sich entsetzt über den Einsatz gezeigt. Durch den Überfall sei „die letzte größere Gesundheitseinrichtung im nördlichen Gazastreifen außer Betrieb gesetzt“ worden. Dies sei Teil einer „systematischen Zerschlagung des Gesundheitssystems“. 

Die Administrativhaft wurde für Dr Hussam Abu Safiya wurde zweimal verlängert - zuletzt im September. Seit inzwischen 16 Monaten ist er in Haft - ohne jede Anklage, ohne Zugang seiner Rechtsanwälte zu den Akten.

Nach Berichten über „schwere Folter“ veröffentlichten UN-Experten am 24.03.2026  eine Erklärung, in der sie die sofortige Freilassung von Dr. Abu Safiya fordern:

„Staaten haben die Macht, sein Leiden zu beenden, und wir fordern sie auf, davon Gebrauch zu machen. (...) Es ist die Pflicht der Staaten, die Einfluss auf Israel und die internationale Gemeinschaft haben, alle Möglichkeiten zu nutzen, um Prävention, Rechtsbehelf und Gerechtigkeit zu gewährleisten.
Israel muss Dr. Abu Safiya und alle Beschäftigten im Gesundheitswesen freilassen und sicherstellen, dass sie Zugang zu angemessener medizinischer Versorgung haben.“

In diesem Sinne fordern wir:

Das Deutsche Außenministerium muss seiner Pflicht nachkommen !!!

Freiheit für Dr Hussam Abu Safiya !

Und dafür muss auch Druck auf Israel ausgeübt werden:

• Keine Waffenlieferungen!
• Aussetzung des EU-Israel-Assoziierungsabkommens!

To all foreign ministries in Europe!

Amnesty International and the World Health Organisation reported that on 27 December 2024, the last functioning hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip, Kamal Adwan Hospital, was bombed and burned to the ground, and that medical staff were arrested and tortured.

Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, a paediatrician and director of the hospital, was arbitrarily arrested without trial.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has expressed horror at the attack. It stated that the raid had “put the last major healthcare facility in the northern Gaza Strip out of action”. This, it said, was part of a “systematic dismantling of the healthcare system”.

Dr Hussam Abu Safiya’s administrative detention has been extended twice – most recently in September. He has now been in detention for 16 months – without any charges being brought against him and without his lawyers having access to the case files.

Following reports of “severe torture”, UN experts issued a statement on 24 March 2026 calling for the immediate release of Dr Abu Safiya:

“States have the power to end his suffering, and we urge them to exercise it. (...) It is the duty of states with influence over Israel and the international community to use all means to ensure prevention, redress and justice.

Israel must release Dr Abu Safiya and all healthcare workers and ensure they have access to adequate medical care.”

With this in mind, we demand:

The German Foreign Ministry must fulfil its duty!!!

Free for Dr Hussam Abu Safiya!

And to this end, pressure must also be exerted on Israel:

• No arms deliveries!
• Suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement!
