Free Dental Care for All Cancer Patients - Update

Imagine if one day you found out you had cancer. Hearing the words “you’ve got cancer” is life changing for most people and I can't put into words quite how life-changing those words are. Then imagine you’re told that in order to fight the disease, you’ll have to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy and yes, you will probably lose your hair, you will probably feel sick and being able to work might be impossible. Are you financially prepared for that day?
Unfortunately many cancer patients find their income drops to such a level that even paying household bills can be impossible. State benefits can only help so far (and that’s if you qualify). So you’ve struggled through treatment and then afterwards, people think you’re “cured”. Most cancer patients don’t feel cured. In fact they feel like they’ve been run over by a bus (which has reversed over them a few times). They may be struggling with temporary or life long side effects. Now imagine that your teeth are starting to crumble, crack, fall out and your mouth is hurting.
Unless you’re on means tested benefits (and many many cancer patients are not), you will have no option but to pay for treatment. Bills can run into thousands of pounds – would you have the money for this? Most people don’t and trying to find the money, just to be comfortable again, is stressful and worrying. That’s why we need government reforms to make dental treatment free for all cancer patients.
