Shortly after Byron's sentencing, he stated to me, "Lots of people turned on me because they think I'm done. They think this is it for me. Family, friends, even the judge and prosecutor think that I'm done."
Because of the amount of time he was given, he was immediately put on suicide watch. His response was, "Nah, that's not even an option, oppressors."
The day-to-day existence behind the wall, exemplifies the power of Byron's resilience, creativity and positive contributions.
"Every day I hold on to hope that the truth will set me free. I have chosen to be a jenga to the men here behind the wall. As I work to change my own situation, I help others to do the same for themselves. As a light and a leader, I stand strong." ~ Byron Greene
Byron's words remind us that even in the darkest of places, he continues to shine light. His voice MUST be heard OUTSIDE these walls.
