Many of the residents of Franklin Borough enjoy the companionship, fresh healthy eggs and beauty of a flock of colorful chickens, ducks and even turkeys! We build community by sharing fresh eggs with one another, children get to see where the eggs they eat for breakfast come from, we share chicken stories with our friends and neighbors and we help preserve the farming roots of Sussex County.  Raising backyard chickens not only leads to a healthier diet though! Raising backyard chickens, ducks and turkeys helps us to unwind after a hectic day at work, it improves mental health by allowing us to care for our birds and be present in nature. The ordinances as they currently stand are vague and outdated. We are asking for an ordinance that states unequivocally that chickens, ducks  and turkeys kept as pets in the Borough of Franklin be permitted. There are those that seek to use the existing ordinance as it stands to outlaw chickens, ducks and turkeys from being kept in the Borough of Franklin as backyard pets. Please help us to protect our feathered pets. The benefits from owning backyard chickens are immeasurable.
