The Issue

On September 5th 1992 the world of animation, and the Batman universe for that matter, forever changed when Batman: The Animated Series aired on the Fox Network. Originally produced by Warner Bros. Animation and developed by Bruce Timm, Eric Radomski and others, this cutting edge kids program reached far beyond the proposed audience of the Fox Kids lineup and touched those young and old, far and wide. With it's detailed and enthralling ability to not only entertain "kids" but also grab and maintain the attention of seemingly everyone in it's path, this revolution of animation provided a much needed and stark re-imagining of "The Dark Knight". In the vein of the then recent and successful 1989 "Batman" film by Tim Burton, the series carried a so called "Dark Deco" look with it's brilliant use of darker backgrounds and colors coined by co-creator Bruce Timm. The creators of the show also showed off their ability to cast in a genius way when they brought on Kevin Conroy, a relatively unknown but talented actor, to portray the voice of it's main character. Conroy has since become known as the one and only "voice" of Batman subsequently voicing the character for countless other shows, movies and even video games. Another stand out performer, who was on the flip side very well known for his role in the Star Wars franchise, Mark Hamill's portrayal of Batman's arch nemesis The Joker was completley out of left field for most fans. Hamills ability to contort his voice into the menacing foe delighted fans worldwide. To see the veteran come storming back into the spotlight by way of his riveting performances once again displayed the creators' uncanny ability to make all of the right moves and bolster this already flourishing cast. Adding to it's already decodent array of animated wonderment, the music of this series provided the proverbial icing on the seamingly already perfect cake that was Batman. The unmistakable theme song composed by the renowned Danny Elfman was just the cherry on top of the amazing work done on several episodes by Shirley Walker, Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuistion and over 20 other composers. National and International acclaim for the series has been another justification for it's potential rebirth. It has been ranked in the top five greatest animated shows of all time in many respected publications such as Wizard, IGN and Entertainment Weekly. This series wasn't a simple fly by night fad or a just another short lived, flash in the pan. It was much more than that to the countless men, women, boys and girls who enjoyed it. Regardless of the reasons it ended or went in a new direction, I believe that if brought back in its original form, it could bring happiness and breed a new generation of greatness. I believe that if you sign this petition to bring together this amazing collaboration of genius, there can finally be closure for those of us who have waited over 20 years to see an animated version of Batman that's worth watching. We the people hereby petition all parties necessary to bring back this piece of us that has been gone for so long.
