Back in May of 2014, in partnership with Animal Legal Defense Fund, retired US Fish & Wildlife toxicologist Sonce Devries and I filed a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request in order to gain a better understanding of the business relationship that exists between US Fish & Wildlife and sole source contractor, Island Conservation. For months we have been receiving and reviewing documents. The email below is from the EPA and concerns the proposed rat poison carpet bombing at the Farallones. It is important to note that during the public comment period, the EPA sent an 18 PAGE comment letter expressing their concerns about this project if it were to move forward. As you can plainly see in this email below, US Fish & Wildlife is hiding something. This is just one example of the secrecy and lack of transparency that surrounds this industry. As mentioned in an earlier update, Island Watch Conservation Science has been created to investigate, monitor and write about the exploitation of island ecosystems around the world. We have fiscal sponsorship from MarinLink, and all donations are tax deductible. If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please send an email to info@islandwatch.org.
