Hi Everyone, 13 months have passed since Island Watch and Animal Legal Defense Fund filed our FOIA request with USFWS. With the generous support of ALDF, we've been busy reviewing thousands of documents related to the island eradication business. We have recently filed an appeal since many documents requested are missing or were inappropriately redacted. However, we did uncover one email discussion between USFWS, the US Air Force and Island Conservation that was extremely disturbing and needs to be shared. After a failed island eradication attempt at Wake Island in 2012, the US Air Force (which maintains a military base on Wake Island) recommended a fishing ban for 942 DAYS due to contamination. This was done after sampling the fish population around the island for exposure to brodifacoum, the type of rat poison that had been dropped out of helicopters by a pilot from New Zealand. Since this is now public information, Island Watch has made this information available on our web site. http://islandwatch.org/freedom-of-information-act-request-foia "Those that have the privilege to know have the duty to act." ~ Albert Einstein
