Overnight, nine Australians were arrested for behaving like Australians at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Aged between 25 and 29, the group were arrested at about 5:00pm local time on Sunday while watching the grand prix, won by Australian Daniel Ricciardo, at the Sepang International Circuit.

Pictures of the incident were posted on social media by fellow spectators. Their pictures showed the group holding up an Australian flag, while wearing the Malaysian-themed underwear with the words "budgy smuggler" across the back.

While reckless, their crime seems to have been 'having fun' in an overly serious country.

Thousands of Australians have gotten behind the boys this morning with a viral #PutYourSmugglersOut Campaign. We all share one common request, that our boys be returned home safely.

Their behaviour outlines a stark double standard that exists between the bikini-clad Grand Prix promo girls, and our beautiful boys.

We ask Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to please do her best to return the Grand Prix 9 home safely.
