Petition updateForce Colorado Springs to Repair the Barr TrailIS THE CONSERVATION EASEMENT LEGAL?
COS Land Swap
Apr 7, 2024

Hello,

This is my contribution to Citizen's Discussion at Tuesday's City Council meeting:

Good morning,

During the public comment process for the land swap between the city and the Broadmoor we were told that the conservation easement for Strawberry Fields would take one year from the date that the City Council approved the land swap.

We were told that the deal could not close until the conservation easement was completed.

The City Council approved the land swap on May 24th, 2016.

Then, we were suddenly told that the deal had closed on December 30th, 2016.

How is that possible?

Was the information that we were given during the public comment process incorrect?

Did the Palmer Land Trust cut corners or cheat to get the deal closed early?

Why would they do such a thing?

What is the city's opinion?

Is the conservation easement valid today?

The Palmer Land Trust had to know that the public was being told that the conservation easement would not be complete until one year to the day after city council approval.

Did they allow incorrect information about their legal process to be disseminated during the public comment process?

Or did they illegally complete the conservation easement months before it could be valid?

Which of these acts did the Palmer Land Trust commit?

Thank you, Carl Strow
