Sorry about the false start that was sent last week! :-)
Our Heights community and nearby areas may be changing. We would expect this as change is the only constant. Maybe you would like to see some changes, but maybe not these particular changes.
If you are steamed over what happened on 11th St, you should care about Washington Avenue. H-GAC and the City of Houston are partnering on proposals 'to make Washington Avenue safer for everybody.' One thing is becoming apparent: A movement is afoot to impose road diets everywhere inside the Loop, making it impossible for traffic to flow freely on major thoroughfares.
BikeHouston.org says that the City of Houston will not give their desired improvements the go-ahead unless local residents and business owners turn out to demand them. So expect lots of the bike mafia to turn out to support a road diet/lane narrowing project on Washington Ave and most likely more bike lanes.
Is that what you want, too? If not, you must act. Register for a virtual meeting on Thursday, March 19, at 6:00 - 7:30 pm. here.
Now is your chance to learn what H-GAC is proposing to do and make your voice heard.
You can help influence the outcome by committing an hour or so of your time to attend a virtual meeting and by voting on your preferred Alternative. You can see more information here.
Following the adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, your early civic engagement speaks volumes more than bellyaching on social media after the proposal is adopted.
