I write to you tremendously angry. The Spanish Congress has just approved the so-called Animal Welfare Law, a law that has forgotten the more than 100 dolphins and orcas that live in captivity in Spain swimming in circles in small pools. Over the last months I have tried, together with other organizations, that this new legislation includes measures to guarantee that the current generation is the last generation of cetaceans that will imprisoned in our country.

Our political representatives had a unique opportunity to follow in the same steps as other countries on this issue, but they decided to waste it by voting against the amendments we presented. We cannot allow the status quo to continue and that is why I will soon travel to Madrid to deliver the signatures of my campaign and continue exerting pressure on our government.

Spain is the largest dolphin prison in Europe, and 6th in the world, only behind countries like Russia, China, and the U.S., with more than 100 cetaceans in captivity and home to more than a third of all European dolphin parks. A fact that should make us ashamed, not only because of the exploitation to which these animals are subjected, but also because of the negative effects and suffering caused by captivity on these animals endowed with high emotional intelligence (effects that are well documented by numerous scientific studies).
