We achieved our first goal: we had a meeting with the mayor.

Hello everyone,
We wanted to thank you all for supporting our petition! We achieved our first goal: have a telematics meeting with the mayor of Sevilla. We had the opportunity to explain to him the needings we see in our neighbourhoods, Polígono Sur and Torreblanca.
According to the compromises we got during the meeting, we sent to the mayor a list of suggestions to consider politics that palliate the consequences of COVID-19 in our neighbourhoods. The summary of our proposals following:
- To guarantee the basic resources to face the measurements of public health. Provide infrastructures to have water and electricity, spaces, technological resources, internet and economic resources to those families who are in settlement conditions.
- To promote a culture of democratic participation of the roma community. We’re the main interested in these politics and we should participate actively in the process of making decisions with the objective that they are sensitive to our needs and respond to our social reality.
- The organisations that work with the neighbourhoods should collaborate with the public services and support the efforts of evaluation and audit, but not replace the municipal responsibility. During this crisis, the organisations in charge of defending the rights of citizens have been carrying out certain actions destined to cover the urgent needs of our communities, without having the responsibility or the ability to face this challenge. The role of these organisations should be to defend the basic rights of our communities and not be used as a vehicle for government programs.
- To denounce the hate speech that the media transmit and to promote strategies that dignify citizens. A large number of media have talked of isolated news that give a biased and discriminatory image of our communities. The local government should denounce these images. Otherwise, they will be legitimating unfair circumstances that are putting at risk the social cohesion, eroding and degrading the reputation of our city.
Your signatures have helped us to achieve the meeting with the mayor. However, we haven’t finished yet. Continuing sharing and signing this petition means supporting the suggestions that we made to Juan Espadas. Our goal is to generate resilients cities guided fot the principles of responsibility, transparency and confidence through citizen participation and accountability.
