Dear petitioners, You will remember that we handed in the petition to Presidents Juncker, Tusk and Schulz on 12 October. A few days ago, the European Commission's Ethical Committee has delivered its opinion http://bit.ly/2f49R5w on the case. We have now issued a statement in response to the opinion. http://bit.ly/2e8kBSP Please tweet and retweet the statement https://twitter.com/EUemployees/status/794157731297054720 and/or share the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=645159952310921&id=631302177030032 We noted that on its opinion of 26 October, the Ethical Committee acknowledged http://bit.ly/2f49R5w that the decision of former Commission President José Manuel Barroso to join Goldman Sachs has caused "reputational damage to the Commission and the Union more generally". We are disappointed that, nevertheless, the Committee does not recommend any legal action against Mr Barroso. We see there a deep contradiction. Furthermore, the opinion states that integrity and discretion are “vague notions”. We are perplexed by the fact that an ethical committee should choose to abstain from examining and clarifying those notions. We are concerned by the devastating effects of the Barroso case in a context of rising euroskepticism. We are now eagerly waiting for the official reaction of the European Commission and its President, Jean-Claude Juncker, who have indeed a significant responsibility in this regard (...)
