Dear Petitioners

We're urging Denmark council to reconsider their decision to rezone Lot 3, William Bay for a tourism extravaganza.

None of you thinks there should be a caravan park, brewery, restaurant, shop etc at Lot 3 South Coast Highway, William Bay. You've supported us well, thank you - now I'm asking you to do another small job. Please copy the proforma letter below, make it your own if you like and email to Denmark Shire Councillors. Before 26 March if you can, otherwise as soon as you can.

Subject: Reconsider, Resolve and Remove Support for Rezoning Lot 3 South Coast Highway

Dear Councillors,
Recently Council announced that it's reconsidering tourism precincts. The accompanying statement said Council will also “ensure any future tourism development meets the highest possible standards, including environmental standards and visual amenity amongst others”.
The tourism proposal for rezoned no. 2446 (Lot 3) South Coast Highway, William Bay does not meet “the highest possible standards”. The extent of community and key State government departments' concerns about the suitability and location of the site for tourism development attest to this.
Rather than adding pressure to sensitive and unique William Bay, act to help preserve it. The environment and our community will be the beneficiaries.
I join with others in urging you now to reconsider your support for rezoning 2446 (Lot 3) South Coast Highway, William Bay from Rural to Tourist and Scheme Amendment 147. Please adopt a new resolution withdrawing support and advise the community, WA Planning Commission and the Minister for Planning accordingly.
Council will receive the thanks and support of Denmark and the wider community.
Yours sincerely,

We have a choice and we can exercise it. Help us protect these precious places.

With thanks as always

Helen Spencer
