This week was a busy one for WSF and for media coverage of our ferry crisis. KING5 news posted an article detailing a letter to Congress from local leaders, urging expanded funding. Our beleaguered system also made national news on NPR's Weekend Edition, which picked up a story from local outlet KUOW. It too echoed the need for Federal aid to round out funding to buy new boats, improve service, and support the service contingency plan.
If you waited in one of the very long lines to get on or off ferry-dependent Vashon Island or at other locations this weekend, you felt the pain of the crisis in real time. Now, it's time to turn your frustration into action!
Islanders for Ferry Action urges you to support our elected leaders and Washington State Ferries by asking Congress to fund these programs at the highest level possible:
- Passenger Ferry Grant Program
- Ferry Service for Rural Communities Program
- Electric or Low-Emitting Ferry Pilot Program
Call or write our Federal delegation today and ask for maximum funding for the above programs:
- Representative Pramila Jayapal (34th District): online contact form, or (202) 225-3106
