The total Seattle Parks and Recreation budget stands at $359,247,617, which breaks down to roughly $440 per resident. Yet, only about $250,000 is allocated to Burke-Gilman Trail repairs—less than 0.07% of the entire budget. Data from just a single trail counter shows 900 bicyclists per day, a figure that alone justifies doubling our current maintenance investment. Because pedestrians and runners aren't currently captured in these counts, the true volume of daily users is even higher, making this severe underfunding even more stark.
