Hi everyone,
I'm writing to update you on our common goal to fix our democracy and adopt Ranked Choice Voting. Things have only gotten worse since I started the petition to the National Governors Association - we are more divided than ever and our government is even less effective. We can't keep pretending that doing things the same way is going to produce different results. We need to change the "us vs. them" political culture that is tearing us apart and making our country weak.
So I started a new petition, this one directed to Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. If Biden wins it will be because citizens from across the political spectrum voted for him - independent voters, Libertarians, Republicans that don't want to vote for Trump, Bernie Sanders would-be Social Democrats and a lot of people who would have voted for the Green Party if that wouldn't just waste their vote. Biden knows that - he is asking Americans to put the integrity of our democracy ahead of their policy preferences in this election; we should ask him to do the same.
If we want to make our elections safe for democracy we need to do more than change presidents, we need to change the way we elect presidents - and Congress. We need to fix the system by adopting Ranked Choice voting. If you agree you can sign my petition to Biden and the Democratic Party here: https://www.change.org/p/joe-biden-and-the-democratic-party-the-revolution-we-need-ranked-choice-voting Ask them to used Ranked Choice for their primaries, inform voters that there is a more democratic way to elect our representatives, and put the question to the voters in every state where Democrats have a majority in the legislature.
And you can still share my first petition to the National Governors Association - which I will be sending to the new Chair, Andrew Cuomo in December. We need to make our voices as loud as possible as many places as possible. Here’s the link https://www.change.org/p/fix-democracy-first
Thank you again for your support. If enough of us sign these petitions we can’t be ignored! Until then, VOTE! Only we can make democracy work for us. Lorelei
