Laura Celis Black started this petition to First ColonyCommunity Association

First Colony Community Association is destroying the most important asset of the City of Sugar Land, the amazing 30 to 40-year-old healthy live oak trees that make our neighborhoods so unique.  FCCA owns the trees, thus they believe they have the right to cut them. The problem with this belief is that the trees may be legally theirs, but in some way, they also belong to all those property owners and residents who have chosen to live in the City of Sugar Land and in FCCA neighborhoods, where we pay taxes and HOA dues.  Trees are not the sole property of FCCA because residents have been maintaining them through our financial contributions, and giving them respect and honor because their presence fills us with pride. Please sign this petition to put an immediate stop to the tree-killing, and start a dialogue about tree preservation. Please help us save our trees!!!

Some facts about trees that may help you understand how they are a collective property that needs to be respectfully preserved:

1.- One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and puts out four tons of oxygen. This is enough to meet the annual needs of 18 people. U.S. Department of Agriculture.

2.- A mature tree can have an appraised value of between $1,000 and $10,000, according to the Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers.

3.- Healthy, mature trees (like those in our neighborhood) add an average of 10 percent to a property’s value. USDA Forest Service.
