Fire Renee Thole Mason School Teacher Suggested a Possible Lynching of a Black Student
The Issue
Renee Thole, a white Mason City middle school Social Studies teacher, told a 13 year old African American student that his classmates might lynch him if he did not get back on task. The student’s mother Tanisha Agee-Bell is not satisfied with the district’s handling of the incident. Mason Schools spokeswoman, Tracy Carson and the school board were dismissive and flippant at best. Agee-Bell attempted to address this at a school board meeting publicly, but was asked by officials to talk afterwards instead. That talk lasted five minutes. Thole needs to be fired. She is a Social Studies teacher. Mason Schools said the teacher “messed up” and that Thole has not been suspended. Instead she will receive training.
