Dear Liverpool fans,
This hasn't been our first bad season in the past 11 years. However, it is certainly the worst and most hopeless season we've endured since the dismissal of Roy Hodgson. Arne Slot has led us sleepwalking into the trapdoor of mediocrity, and for some bizarre reason, recent reports say that FSG plan to stick with Slot for the next season.
Not only is this irrationally defiant of the majority who want Slot out the Anfield doors, it is totally ignorant of why we are here in the first place. No amount of injuries, bad referee calls, or "bad luck" can excuse:
- A 50% win rate in a year's worth of matches;
- Elimination from all four available trophies by April;
- Massively changing a title-winning squad only to get worse;
- A lethargic style of play which gains neither plaudits or points;
- Continuing to play out-of-form players despite having suitable alternatives fit and available;
- Repeatedly going back on promises;
- Failing to respect fans' opinions and mocking their criticisms and concerns;
- Falling out with crucial squad players;
- Failing to inspire belief and passion in players and fans;
- Tone-deaf interviews;
The list could go on. However, by now I believe you understand me when I say that Arne Slot cannot continue as Liverpool head coach.
Slot has alienated us fans too far from his beliefs and style. Most of our players no longer seem motivated to play for him, besides the professionalism that is due from them. Large factions of fans have left the stadium early, and some of those who stayed behind booed at the end of the game. Liverpool fans are, for better or for worse, some of the most patient and understanding fans in the world. A coach simply does not get booed at Anfield and stay for long.
This brings echoes of the Brendan Rodgers situation back in 2015. After nearly capturing the Premier League title in 2013-14, Rodgers led Liverpool to a disappointingly 2014-15 season. Despite some calls to fire him at the end of the season and start afresh, FSG stuck with Rodgers, a decision they reversed a mere two months after the start of the new season. This led to a mid-season scramble for a new manager, something that every top club wants to avoid for the sake of calm and convenience.
While Jürgen Klopp turned out to be a monumental success, Liverpool should not repeat the mistakes of the past. Despite this season's struggles, the club is in an even stronger position than during Brendan Rodgers' tenure. A new manager may lure several needed talents to Anfield, as well as integrating the ones bought in summer 2025, setting Liverpool up for a strong 2026-27 season.
Remember why this signature has 118 signatures. Remember why "Slot Out" is trending in the media. Remember why Liverpool fans have booed at games and left early. We cannot return to the mediocrity of the early 2010s. Keep the standards up, don't cave to FSG, and demand for Arne Slot to be fired.
