Make Dragonpunk - Allow a Kickstarter Campaign
The Issue
Dragonpunk is an XCOM 2 total conversion mod which aims to be an entirely new universe built on the same game engine. Mods are a great way to introduce a new title, as they provide a playable concept which can be expanded once you’ve engaged players and built trust in the gaming community. Many incredibly popular games such as DotA and Team Fortress started as mods before gaining the studio backing necessary to turn them in major titles. Finally, creating Dragonpunk as XCOM 2 mods means the entire cost to make the game would be about 10-20% of a normal AAA game.
We started designing Dragonpunk over a year ago, and have created 3 "mega-mods" including the highly anticipated XCOM 2 Co-Op Mod. Our mods have been featured in Niche Gamer, iDigitalTimes, and even PC Gamer! Each of these mods cost several thousand dollar due to the custom art, voice acting, and hundreds of hours of coding. In total, we've spent over $50,000 developing the Dragonpunk XCOM 2 mods and concept art (5:30 in this video). To continue making Dragonpunk would require the backing of Firaxis for the final mods (all the art, rigging, animations, particle effects for game characters, dragons, etc).
Game Studios like Firaxis create their budget years in advance, so financial backing for Dragonpunk would have to come from the community through a Kickstarter campaign. Many companies like Sony and Square Enix will promote Kickstarter campaigns for smaller games, and this petition is asking Firaxis and 2K to do the same with Dragonpunk. Funds raised would go directly to Firaxis to further build trust and confidence in this campaign. All the characters, tilesets, and code fixes created can also be used in your normal XCOM 2 game, just like all our current mods.
Team Dragonpunk will keep making our mods better, but now we need your help to transition from a mod to a full game! Please sign this petition and let Firaxis and 2K know you want more great content for their fantastic game!
Only you can make it happen!
