A new video (in collaboration with Story Center and Sahiyo) tells the story of Maryum Saifee, the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) survivor at the center of this petition. In the video, which you can view here, Maryum tells her story of undergoing FGM at the age of 7.

Maryum recalls the memory while visiting her niece in Seattle. She goes on to talk about her decision to speak out publicly against FGM, with the hope that future generations of girls will be spared. And she talks directly about the momentum behind this petition, which has garnered almost 90,000 signatures pushing Washington state lawmakers and Governor Jay Inslee to act to end FGM.
