While Polar Bear Dippers dip themselves into the icy waters this morning in support of Save Georgian Bay, we are asking you to attend Monday’s Meaford Council meeting to showcase community opposition to TC Energy’s Pumped Storage proposal and to ensure that our voices are heard.  

Here’s the Background:

At a recent Council Meeting, the Council was set to approve Terms of Reference to create a committee focused on giving the community a voice on the proposal’s benefits and risks.
At this meeting, TC Energy pressured Meaford Council, demanding an opportunity to be consulted about the mandate and membership of this committee, including having its own seat.
This pressure resulted in the Meaford Council deferring the establishment of the committee for two weeks. They will consider it again at their next council meeting on Monday, Feb 26th.

Meaford Council should create a Pumped Storage Advisory Committee, and it should be made up of volunteer community members (not paid employees). This Advisory Committee is an opportunity for our Council to hear from its constituents, NOT an opportunity for TC Energy to push its agenda forward.

As the proposal’s proponent, TC Energy and its representatives should not have a seat on the committee, voting or otherwise. They are a corporation with profit-based motives and not members of our community.
