Some things to know about TCE*

Pumped storage is old technology.
There is nothing “clean and cutting edge” about pumped storage.
We have highly efficient energy capture technology at our fingertips that precludes consideration of a project that yields: a) only
70% return from clean energy employed, b) creates 300,000 tons
of CO2 in its construction, and c) imperils what we are told is a
“world biosphere” in Georgian Bay. TC Energy knows this.

Government lobbying.
TCE constantly lobbies Canadian and US governments to weaken
environmental policies. The company has registered 411 federal
lobby communications in Canada between July 2008 and January
2015 making it one of the most active lobbyists of the federal
government.

Aggressive public relations strategies.
In 2014, leaked PR strategy documents revealed that TCE had hired
the world’s largest PR firm, Edelman, to prepare its Energy East
Campaign, including the use of controversial strategies to damage
the reputation of opponents. One example of these strategies includes a $5 million (USD) Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation
(SLAPP) against 19 activists and several environmental groups. The
defendants—threatened with losing their homes and life’s savings—
agreed in 2013 to cease opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline.

Corporate welfare.
In a 2014 Canadian Business study on the Canadian corporations
that pay the least tax, TCE appears in the top 15 of 241 companies.
This study looked at the average amount of total tax paid in cash
by companies over the past decade.

Government-owned electricity generation company Ontario Power
Generation (OPG) has signed an agreement to acquire a portfolio
of three combined-cycle natural gas-fired plants from TC Energy’s
owned subsidiary TransCanada Energy for $2.87 billion.
*TRANSCANADA WAS RE-BRANDED TO TCE IN 2019.
