Stop the lynching of petty thieves in Nigeria!

The Issue

On October 5th 2012, we coined the lexicon, "The Aluu four"; The "Aluu four" was a "necklace lynching" that involved four young men, Ugonna Obuzor, Toku Lloyd, Chiadika Biringa, and Tekena Elkanah, all students of the University of Port Harcourt. They were all lynched after they were falsely accused of theft in Aluu, a community in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Today we are told of another 'mind numbing' incident in Lagos State involving a 7 year old! The facts we know is that a 7 year old for the act of stealing food was lynched, "necklace style".

These barbaric acts of "injustice" only seem to be getting more brazen; just a cursory reading of these acts over the last two decades suggest that they tend to be "community" based, and indeed sanctioned! As in this incident which we are told took place at a public market in Lagos. It is time the government gets involved!

This pertiom calls on The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; The Inspector General of Police; The Governor, Lagos State, to take the following immediate action:

1.Denounce on National media those who took the life of this 7 year old

2. Immediately issue 'warrants' for the arrest of those involved and the community or "market leaders" who stood by and did nothing during this dastardly attack!
