24hr Mt Waverley Pharmacy and its community under threat!

The Issue

On the 10 April 2019, our 24hr TerryWhite Chemmart Mt Waverley pharmacy and its community were devastated when a Federal Court orders the PBS licence of the pharmacy to be suspended from 11 June 2019, forcing both the pharmacy and the Waverley Family Healthcare medical centre to immediately stop their 24 hour medical service from 11 June 2019.

After months of legal battles, the legal team of a nearby pharmacy owner successfully argued, on technical grounds, that an "administrative error" occurred about 18 months ago when the Health Minister exercised his power to approve the pharmacy licence.

Since opening on 05 March 2018, the 24hr pharmacy and medical centre have helped thousands of patients, many of which are patients of the local hospital Emergency Departments.

The 24hr pharmacy and medical centre is the only 24hr co-located setup in the South Eastern Suburbs of Victoria. In fact, there are only just two similar setups in the whole of Victoria. As Dr Alan Cunneen recently confirmed, the 24hr clinic and pharmacy will have the opportunity to expand its role by taking up even more patients from Monash Medical Centre, which will help free up clogging at the very busy Emergency Department.

On 11 June 2019, the Federal Court will allow the pharmacy to reapply to the Health Minister to have its PBS licence reapproved. However, if unsuccessful, the pharmacy will have to close down permanently and the community will also lose a 24hr medical centre.

The existence of the 24hr pharmacy and the after hours services are invaluable to both the local community and local hospitals.

Please help our 24hr pharmacy and the local community by supporting this petition.
