Thank you for supporting First Nations children's right to an education system that honours their language, culture and Country.
Later this week is January 26, known to some as Australia Day, but known to many First Nations people and non-First Nations people as Invasion Day.
This Invasion Day we are asking for your support, to keep up momentum and to take action. We want to see real changes made in 2024. The gravity of the situation facing First Nations people in Australia today requires complete innovation, rethinking and revolution.
We have reached an important moment in our campaign to see education reformed and a First Nations education system implemented.
Next month, on 28 February, Children’s Ground and a delegation of First Nations educators are traveling to Canberra to launch a landmark report calling for national reform of Australia’s education system. At the core of the report, titled the MK Turner Report, is the call for the recognition and resourcing of a First Nations education system referred to as Apmerengentyele – First Nations worldview.
We will be presenting the Federal Government with a roadmap for education reform at Parliament House. This roadmap has been developed by over 60 First Nations educators from the Utyerre Apanpe (First Nations Educator Network), supported by strong evidence and the United Nations Declaration of Rights for Indigenous People.
When we arrive in Canberra next month, we need to show the Federal Government that we have your support.
Can you help us reach our goal of 150,000 signatures by sharing this petition for education reform?
Tomorrow, 25 January at 12pm AEDT we are holding a free online webinar with an esteemed panel of First Nations changemakers to yarn about this date, self-determination and the importance of First Nations-led solutions. You can find out more and register here.
