We just learned that our petition in Oakland that inspired this action gained the attention of Comcast, the major internet provider for low-income families in that area. And they have agreed to waive the restriction on prior debt for all of their low-income applicants across the country!

This is huge news not only for Oakland but for ALL cities where Comcast/Xfinity is the major internet provider. It also shows that we can make the big corporations listen when we act together!

But we are not done.

It's great that Comcast is stepping up and being responsive to the community, but it only further highlights the vacuum of leadership nationally. If the FCC had made this stipulation weeks ago, millions of low-income children would have already had access to the internet. And millions more should.

We need all of the more than 650 telecom companies that signed the Keep Americans Connected pledge to provide the same level of commitment as Comcast. The FCC can make this happen with one simple change. They must act today!
