Urging Action: Addressing Incomplete Representation in LCPS Language Education

We would like to express our gratitude to all those who supported the petition to teach Hindi and Sanskrit in Loudoun County Public Schools. LCPS conducted a one time to determine the new languages to be taught in the curriculum, and the results showed that Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese were selected as the top three choices. Arabic was selected as the new language offered this year. This survey was a one-time event and, we don't know when something like this will take place again. The outcome has not reflected the cultural makeup of our community. People were not aware of the survey as the survey may not have been sufficiently publicized, leading to a potentially incomplete representation of opinions. Our community deserves a more equitable and inclusive approach to language education, and it is our responsibility to hold LCPS accountable for fulfilling this obligation. We will share the petition and our argument with LCPS, but writing individual letters will further emphasize the importance of having Indian languages represented in our schools. Let us work together to ensure that Indian languages have a seat at the table.
