The Worst Has Come to Pass

As the proponent of this petition, it pains me to say this but the petition should be withdrawn. (I don't see a way to do this so I'm posting this update instead.) I have to admit that I assumed Hillary Clinton would still win the election, in spite of Comey's bad actions. Under those circumstances, I believed that making either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton request his resignation or fire him would be damaging to the appropriate relationship between the FBI Director and his superiors. Now that Trump is the President-Elect, however, Comey's independence is a necessary check on Trump. That does not excuse his prior bad behavior or even mean he is the best person available to do the job. But the very real possibility that Trump might appoint a sycophant in Comey's place means that Comey should stay.
