Title: September 1st status of our petition to save Markham Hill

In the month of August the number of signatures on our online 'Save Markham Hill' petition on change .org increased by 1422! This morning we now have a total of 9932 people who have signed. Wow!

The main news from August is that the developer Specialized Real Estate Group (SREG) began deforesting Markham Hill by removing 3-4 acres of woods on the north side of Markham Rd leading up the hill. This shows that no matter how much good SREG has done or will do, they are still becoming the primary deforester of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

We are never giving up the fight to protect the remaining 140 acres (out of the original 144 acres) of Markham Hill and other intact urban forests, natural areas, wildlife, historical places, archaeology, and remaining Native American areas in Fayetteville.

Markham Hill is the last large intact urban forest and the last large area of known Native American evidence inside Fayetteville. Markham Hill also has an amazing and funky history. Check out the Weekly Markham Hill Moments of History. Over 60 and still coming. We would like all of Fayetteville to become aware of the importance of Markham Hill and join us in protesting its development.

Please call developer Specialized Real Estate Group at (479) 439-8650. Ask them to put the remaining 140-acre Markham Hill property in a conservation easement for permanent preservation or sell to a conservationist who will. If their phone number changes, please look it up online. Remember to remain kind and gracious. Thank you all.
