Dear Friends of Markham Hill,

Next City meeting:
Tuesday, February 4, 2020
5:30pm at City Hall

Markham Hill is the first item on Old Business so should come early in the City Council meeting. Please come at 5:15pm to help hold our two banners and hand out our flyer. We need a good turnout to speak at the podium for 1-5 minutes. Say why you are against the approval of this variance on Phase 1 of the destruction of the Markham Hill intact urban forest, wildlife, Native American land, springs, historical places, and for any other reason you have. The developer is already showing they break promises. Decreasing to a 15 ft setback from the already small 20 ft is breaking their promise of “dwellings nestled in tree cover” and of being “respectful of the existing neighborhood context”.

Plus, the City needs to require the promised full traffic study and impervious surface study on the entire 144-acre Markham Hill property before any development application or permit  is considered. During the rezoning discussions and talks in late 2018, both the City and the developer Seth Mims of SREG implied these full studies (along with environment, tree, plant, wildlife, ecology, water & sewer, and fire) would be done and made public for evaluation, before any development is considered, with the results possibly not even allowing the development at all.

If you would like to donate to the purchase of the '# Save Markham Hill' yard signs, make your check out to 'Friends of Markham Hill' and mail it to me:

Each set of 100 yard signs costs us $700 (this includes the tax).  About 10 people donated to purchase the first two sets of 100 yard signs. We need to buy 100 more. We give out the signs free to those requesting them. But we need the money to purchase them. Friends of Markham Hill is not a non-profit organization yet so unfortunately your donations are not tax-deductible.  We are all donating our time and money to this cause.

It has been a great month!  Over 1000 new signatures on our change.org 'Save Markham Hill' petition.

Thank you so much for your support.

Sincerely,
Lisa Orton
