Results of the January 21, 2020 City Council meeting on the developer’s request for a variance to their development plan for Phase 1 of their destruction of Markham Hill.

The City Council will move discussion and a decision on whether to approve the developer’s request for a variance to their Tuesday February 4th meeting. We will show up again holding our banners, handing out flyers, and giving short speeches at the podium! Every time! In increasing numbers!

This time, developer SREG is requesting to diminish the number of feet between the houses and the street on Cross Ave. They had promised 20 ft (which is still too small) but now want 15 ft.

No matter what the developer requests for their development of Markham Hill, we will fight it. We do not want the destruction to begin. We want to persuade them to be willing to sell to a conservationist who will preserve it all and sell at a reasonable price. And convince the City to support our effort.

There were other items on the agenda before Markham Hill. It was around 11:00 pm when they got to Markham Hill. Many in our group understandably had to leave before that.

The news report online said:

DISCUSSION:
Four residents spoke against the ordinance.

Council member Teresa Turk requested that the council hold the resolution for two weeks.

Marsh voted to advance the issue to the second reading. The vote failed, with Turk and Gutierrez voting against. Bunch was absent for the vote, which required six votes to advance. The mayor declined to cast a vote.

– Left on the first reading.
