Right now, I’m outside Farmfoods’ central office in Birmingham. The company’s bosses have broken their cage-free promise, making them the only big UK supermarket without a commitment to go cage-free. So, today, we’re bringing the pressure to their front door with megaphones, leaflets, and some creative chants 😈
We’re winning the battle. Over 80% of hens in the UK are now cage-free. But Farmfoods’ bosses George and Eric Herd are trying to profit from cruelty instead of getting with the times.
We’re not going to let them get away with it, but we need your help.
Farmfoods bosses will already be feeling the heat from today’s protests - with activists also outside their offices in Glasgow and Solihull. Imagine how they’ll feel when they learn that their customer service lines have been jammed all afternoon with complaints.
Here is your mission, if you choose to accept it…
- Call Farmfoods on 0121 700 7160. Press 1, then press 1 again to speak to customer services. They are open 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Remember, customer services are there to listen, so you’re well within your right to complain (even if it feels a bit nerve-wracking to pick up the phone!)
- Explain that you are calling to complain because you have learnt that Farmfoods has gone back on its promise to stop using eggs from caged hens. Please be polite to customer service staff.
Here are a few (optional) talking points to help you with your conversation:
- Farmfoods is the only big UK supermarket without a cage-free commitment.
- Farmfoods made a commitment to stop using cages back in 2016, but has now dropped it.
- Farmfoods are selling eggs from caged hens for the same price as free-range eggs in some other supermarkets.
- You will not be shopping at Farmfoods until they commit to stop caging hens.
Request that they reinstate their promise.

Thank you for helping animals today, friend. We’ll be in touch again soon with new actions, plus the result of the hundreds of ‘voicemails’ you sent in response to our call-out for messages to Farmfoods bosses last week!
For the animals,
