I am writing on behalf of the concerned healthcare professionals and community members of Cranbrook and Kimberley, BC, to follow up on our previously submitted petition regarding the inclusion of our communities in the Provincial Rural Retention Initiative (PRRI).

We understand that the Ministry has recently expanded the list of eligible communities for the PRRI, and we are aware that other regions have been added after petitioning. However, we have yet to receive any response regarding the status of Cranbrook and Kimberley’s inclusion, despite having submitted our petition some time ago. The absence of a decision is creating increasing uncertainty within our healthcare workforce.

As previously highlighted in our petition, the exclusion of Cranbrook and Kimberley from the PRRI has placed significant strain on already overburdened healthcare resources in our communities. Facilities across Acute Care, Long-Term Care, and community healthcare services are facing serious staffing challenges, and without equitable access to retention incentives, we risk losing more healthcare professionals to neighboring communities that are included in the PRRI.

We respectfully urge the Ministry to reconsider our request and provide a response as soon as possible. Addressing this issue is critical to maintaining stability and ensuring that our communities receive the healthcare they deserve.
