7 MAY 2016 — I first came across Animal Heaven Animal Rescue (AHAR) about 2 years ago on Facebook. It must have come up through a friend or another rescue. Anyway I followed for a while and was very impressed with the fantastic work they did especially the fact they went to the Kerry Pound every Friday and saved all the remaining pound dogs.
In November 2014 we fell in love with a dog on the AHAR page - the lovely Shadow (Bubbles). We pm'd the page telling them we had experience of large dogs, I had been brought up with a Collie x GSD and had owned an Elkhound, my husband had worked intensively with German Shepherds in the Security Industry and desperately wanted a large dog. Elaine contacted us asking for our vet's contact detyails as we already had 3 female dogs and 5 cats. Several days later and after a few pms annoying Elaine's head (we really wanted this dog) we were contacted to say we had a glowing reference from our vet and were approved to adopt. My husband asked if he could go down on Thursday his day off to collect Shadow and was told that was no problem just to ring when he was nearby and someone would let him in.
His visit was quite short (as it is a long drive home) but he was very impressed by the set up and in particular the dedication of the staff who were working in the freezing cold and wet to make sure every animal was cared for. Well to cut a long story short we all fell in love with Shadow that day he is one of the smartest sweetest dogs I have ever met and has become the love of life. He is the centre of our animal family too. The other dogs adore him, the cats respect him, even though he is terrified of them. At Christmas after he had been with us a couple of weeks we had a follow up call from Christine to see how things were and we had a lovely long chat. During this time Elaine also kept in contact on a regular basis too.We became firm AHAR Supporters and donated when we could.
Sometime last year we became aware of the hate page through a coup[le of posts on Suzanne's page and I went to have a look. At first ui was shocked by what I was reading but it didn't take a genius to see the anomalies in the stories, the name-calling and the personal attacks on Suzanne. I began to ask questions.
I was called names, my profile picture was used as proof I was a wino (I was holding a gl;ass of wine in a restaurant)my personal life was torn apart and eventually I was blocked allegedly for blocking two of their admins from my private page. I continued to read their page from time to time and the abuse and bullying continued including bullying of myself and others who were blocked from the page but who they knew could read their vitriol without any right to reply. I have had pictures of my children posted on their page and have had pm's from them abusing me and ridiculing my education as well. |This is bullying at it's worst/
I continued to support AHAR and to donate and having been a victim of the bullying became determined to do everything possible to stop it. Recently I decided to petition Facebook to shut down the bullying page. The first petition had over 1900 signatures when it was shut down due to the hater's constant reporting. We decided to start again.
This time round we have kept to positive updates and have removed any derogatory comments particularly from fake profiles. So far we have 2,194 signatures, Facebook are updated after certain pre-set amounts, 500, 1000, 2,500. We need 306 more signatures to reach 2,500. Given that AHAR have over 160,00 likes on their page this shouldn't be a problem but we are not posting on the main page as we have been asked by Suzanne to give priority there to rehoming, updates and donations. Please sign and share, it is vital that we put a stop to this bullying now, it is affecting the well-being of the animals and increasing the stress levels of the staff who are already doing a trojan job in difficult conditions. Suzanne in particular is exhausted from the stress and if she is not at her best then AHAR suffers.
