Petition to Extend Windows 10 Support

To: Microsoft Corporation

Subject: A call to extend free, comprehensive support for the Windows 10 operating system

Introduction

This petition is a collective request from concerned users, businesses, and organizations to Microsoft to extend the free support period for Windows 10 beyond its current end-of-life date of October 14, 2025. We recognize and appreciate the longevity of Windows 10, but believe that an abrupt end to free support will have significant negative consequences for millions of users worldwide.

Justification

Our reasons for requesting this extension are based on several key factors:

 * Environmental Concerns: The current end-of-life plan could lead to a massive increase in electronic waste. Many Windows 10 devices are still fully functional but do not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11. Forcing users to replace these computers would contribute to a significant environmental burden and contradict global sustainability efforts.

 * Economic Burden: For individuals, small businesses, and educational institutions, replacing a large number of computers is a significant financial strain. Offering an extended period of free security updates would allow these groups more time to budget for and plan a transition, without the immediate pressure of purchasing new hardware.

 * Security and User Experience: The Extended Security Update (ESU) program, while a viable option for some, especially with that one free year, places a financial barrier on continued security. Without free security updates, millions of devices will become vulnerable to cyber threats, creating a security risk for not only the individual users but also for the broader digital ecosystem. Extending free support would ensure a more secure computing environment for all.

 * Operational Disruption: A large portion of the global computer user base still relies on Windows 10. A hard end-of-life date could cause widespread disruption for organizations and individuals who are not prepared for the transition, impacting productivity and access to essential services.

Our Request

We respectfully urge Microsoft to reconsider its current end-of-life policy for Windows 10. We ask that you:

 * Extend the free, comprehensive security support for Windows 10 for an additional period, for example, two to three years.

 * Re-evaluate and potentially lower the hardware requirements for Windows 11 to allow more devices to upgrade.

 * Provide a clear and accessible roadmap for the end-of-life process that prioritizes user safety, environmental responsibility, and economic fairness.

We believe that by extending Windows 10 support, Microsoft can demonstrate its commitment to its users and to a more sustainable and equitable future.

Sincerely, an average Windows 10 enjoyer.
