7 News,
I just watched your news byte on Parramatta's Light Rail project causing new concerns (YouTube link - https://youtu.be/edq6-5sFi7w?si=FLdEBewzYoII7xTH
In my humble opinion, the light rail will contine being a white elephant till the government extends the light rail to bridge the 4 km gap between Carlingford and Epping Metro Station.
The Parramatta Light Rail currently stops short at Carlingford, leaving a tantalizing gap to Epping Metro Station. It's like having a bridge that stops halfway across the river – technically impressive, but not quite hitting the mark!
The 4 km extension to Epping Metro Station would -
Create a direct rail connection between Western and Northern Sydney
Quickly connect Parramatta to the existing M1 metro line (via Epping)
Boost economic opportunities across multiple business districts
Reduce traffic congestion and our environmental footprint
Increase property values and development potential
Cut commute times for thousands of residents
With no metro line being planned beyond 2040 Western and Northern Sydney would be left so close yet so far! Connecting these two bustling areas would surely boost ridership on the Light Rail. Stage 2 alone will again shop short of addressing the real issue!
To get the government's attention I created a petition which has found support with the local community - https://chng.it/MVzVZBfRTG On the petition I have also attached my communication with the Parramatta Council on this matter!
I hope through your medium the givernment will extend the Parramatta Light Rail to Epping Metro station and prevent the light rail and taxpayer money from going to waste!
