Extend th UK Humanitarian Relocation Pathway to Vulnerable Afghanistani Stranded in Cyprus
The Issue
This petition is submitted by a group of asylum seekers in Cyprus on behalf of vulnerable people from Afghanistan stranded on the island.
We submit this petition on behalf of vulnerable people from Afghanistan who have been stranded in Cyprus for the past three to five years.
Many of us are civil society activists, former security personnel, journalists, artists, women at risk, members of religious minorities, and others who cannot safely return to Afghanistan due to the serious threats we face.
Many of our asylum applications have been rejected, placing us at risk of deportation and leaving us without legal certainty, employment opportunities, or family reunification. Cyprus has faced significant challenges in managing asylum cases, leaving many people in prolonged uncertainty and humanitarian hardship.
We respectfully request the Government of the United Kingdom to consider extending, or establishing, a humanitarian relocation pathway for vulnerable people from Afghanistan stranded in Cyprus, similar to the UK/European Applicant Transfer Scheme currently available for eligible applicants in France.
We respectfully ask the UK Government to consider our circumstances with compassion and to explore lawful humanitarian solutions that would allow us to live in safety, dignity, and hope for the future.
Yours sincerely
