Dear Ms Griffin,
Thank you for contacting me about alcohol-free beverages. I am grateful for your feedback and do apologise for the delay in replying to your query.
I share your concerns about the significant harm that the misuse of alcohol can inflict on someone, along with the families of those affected by addiction and local communities. As the 10-Year Health Plan noted, around 4 per cent of people drink as much as 30 per cent of the alcohol consumed each year.
It is important that people have accurate information and clear advice about alcohol and its health risks, enabling people to make informed choices about their drinking.
Regarding alcohol-free options, like you, I fully support them as alternatives to regular alcoholic drinks in pubs and restaurants. You raise interesting points in relation to prohibitive pricing and lack of choice/ options and I will ensure that your comments are fed back to the relevant minister for consideration.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me on this important issue.
Kind Regards,
Martin Vickers
