THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT... NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL! By signing this petition, you are showing unprecedented support for current or former AmeriCorps members (particularly, those of us with disabilities) who are dedicated to serving our communities - in the capacity of providing resources for students considered “at risk”; families living in poverty; hometown businesses that have been displaced; survivors of human trafficking; and community residents who are in need of a place to call “home.” Over the past two years, I have written countless letters to politicians to create a third pathway for the Segal Education Award (which are awarded to AmeriCorps members upon successful completion of service, currently intended for educational loan payment or re-payment ). Despite my efforts, I have only received "acknowledgment" of my letters...with no action. Because of people like you, we are forging a third pathway for the Segal award: The ABLE account, ("Achieving a Better Life Experience"), which allows individuals with disabilities to save money without compromising SSDI, Medicare, and/or Medicaid benefits.
