Increasing the usage of bikes and e-bikes for urban mobility would considerably improve the quality of our lives:

• it would greatly reduce pollution
• it would improve public health, since obesity and sedentary habits related illnesses are a growing burden
• it would therefore alleviate the workload of our hospitals
• it would benefit public finances
• it would reduce our dependence from foreign oil, thus improving our trade balance
• it would diminish the purchasing power of many dictatorial regimes, which finance wars and oppression with oil revenues.

We therefore ask the European Union to immediately compel their member countries to abolish VAT taxes on bike and e-bikes.
