Most of the plastic we use, we use just once and throw away.

Think of how many plastic fast food cups, lids, containers, and straws are thrown away every day. 

It takes hundreds of years for plastic to degrade. Virtually every piece of plastic that was ever made still exists in some shape or form (with the exception of the small amount that has been incinerated). The energy and economic cost of recycling it is immense and less than 10% is recovered, with most of it going into landfill, some being made into durable goods and much of the rest ending up in our waterways and oceans. It is now believed that there are trillions of pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. Of that mass,  tons float on the surface, while  billions of plastic microfibers litter the deep sea.  It is responsible for killing large amounts of marine life and subsequently entered into our food chain. Plastic chemicals can be absorbed by the body and are harmful to humans.  Plastic pollution affects all life and ecosystems on our planet and we need to eliminate as much of it as possible and as soon as possible.  

There are many companies that are producing plant based plastic straws, cups and containers that are made from 100% renewable resources and are biodegradable.  With this petition and all who sign it, I am asking for all fast food restaurant chains to quit using single plastic items and use more responsible products for the benefit of everyone and everything on this planet.
