Today, I came across another disgusting Fair & Lovely advert on an Indian channel in the US. 

The question is – when will the madness end? 

All skin tones are beautiful.

If you are sick and tired of seeing these adverts like me, I humbly request you to make a firm pledge to boycott all fairness products. Get your friends and family to commit as well. 

We must collectively fight against the marketing menace by harnessing our power as a consumer. Hopefully through our combined pledges and boycotting, these companies and actors will be sufficiently ashamed and we can put an end to this racist propaganda once and for all!

Role Models: Actresses Kangana Ranaut and Nandita Das are the few souls who have actively taken a stand against the psychological distress caused by these adverts and its entrenched racism. 

Below, I have listed out all the major companies that are currently in the business of selling fairness products. Moreover, these corporations sign on actors with lucrative endorsement deals for which both the celebrity and the company are to blame. 

Unilever - Fair & Lovely, Ponds White Beauty, Vaseline Whitening Cream

Unilever is a key culprit. Its Indian subsidiary, Hindustan Lever manufactures one of the most well-known fairness products in the market – Fair & Lovely. HUL is almost a pioneer in the representation of women blessed with beautiful shades of color with lower self-esteem and depression. 

Emami - Fair & Handsome

ITC - Vivel Active Fair

Johnson & Johnson - Neutrogena Fine Fairness, Clean & Clear Fairness Cream

Procter & Gamble - Olay Natural White & White Radiance Creams

Beiersdorf - Nivea Whitening Cell Repair Lotion

L'Oreal - White Perfect Lotion

Garnier - Fairness Creams & Moisturizers

Godrej - Fairglow

FEM - Fairness Creme Bleach

p.s. There are many other product names which are cleverly designed by incorporating the word “fair”, “white” and “lightening” as constants such as Multi Action Fairness, Active White Glow, Complete White Perfection, Beauty Lightening, Fair Miracle, All in One Fairness, Cell Whitening, etc.

Boycott them all!
