hi, i've recently just had an argument with one of my friends, as we fought over why hamsters need large cages. I, as a person who believes in large cages, tried to convince one of my friend's who used to own a hamster that hamsters need large cages. She then asked what my cage size is and when I told her the size she laughed and said, 'How big is Bagel, she's so small she doesn't need such a big cage' Just to remind you, she used to own a hamster, I am ashamed that she owned a hamster without even doing proper research. I decided to be calm and try to change her mindset, however she did not take it seriously and laughed and kept saying that they were such small animals and did not need so much space. I stayed calm and told her the proper amount of bedding but she also didn't accept it and said, 'If you put so much bedding how are you supposed to find her' 5 inches is the minimum amount of bedding you should be providing with your hamster and anything less is bad for your hamster and can cause stress to them. I even suggested a youtube video that shows proper hamster care however, being the stubborn person she is, she refused to watch it because 'she isn't going to own hamsters anymore' I do not care whether you are going to own a hamster, as long as you have owned one, it is your responsibility to know the proper care for your pet. Even if you made a mistake, it is fine as long as you reflect on it and move on. This is an example of a toxic pet owner, as a proper pet owner would accept they're wrong and change for the better of their pet. So if you used to own a pet or is planning to own a pet, please do your research before betting one because it'll make your pet's life much better :)
