GMB is the largest trade union amongst school support staff including teaching assistants, HLTAs, cover supervisors, nursery nurses, lunchtime supervisors, premises staff, and administrative & finance staff. The sector has seen huge challenges since Workforce Re modelling in 2003. Teachers had their workload reduced which resulted in a change and expansion of Support Staff roles. However this national agreement failed to deliver for Support Staff.
Such privatisation, combined with the Government’s cuts within the Public Sector, will mean that School Support Staff may face.
Transfers to new employers
Redundancies
Cuts to pay
Changes to terms & conditions of employment
Pay freezes
In such circumstances it is more important than ever to belong to a trade union. Collectively your voice is stronger. On an individual level we represent members in grievance and disciplinary meetings, offer legal advice and also offer criminal legal support in the case of false allegations being made.
GMB want respect and recognition for School Support Staff.
